Happy Easter!
This past weekend was Easter in Canada, and I’ve been getting a lot of messages from friends and family wishing me a happy Easter. Easter, like Christmas, is one of the main times of year that we reach out to the people we love to say hello and to send them our best wishes. School is closed for many students on both the Friday and Monday (Good Friday and Easter Monday) and families try to make the effort to visit their grandparents if they can. In many European countries, it’s an even bigger holiday, with the schools closed for two weeks.
Here at Eiwa, we also celebrated Easter in various ways. On Thursday, students made colorful boiled eggs to give to the new students and teachers at the school. As you probably know, eggs are one of the main symbols of Easter. Everyone seemed very happy to get the pretty eggs.
Good Friday was English Day, so I spoke about Easter during the morning service. Many people eat hot cross buns on Easter morning. They are a sweet roll, often with raisins in them, and with icing in the shape of a cross on top. Children also often take part in Easter egg hunts where they eagerly look for chocolate eggs. I was surprised that some of the students knew about Easter egg hunts and had participated in them in churches or at English conversation schools here in Japan.

Next year Easter will be on April 5. How about making some Easter eggs or maybe even hot cross buns during the spring holiday in 2026? You can do it!
