Christmas English Day
Friday December 8th was English Day here at Shizuoka Eiwa and as it is Advent Season, we held a special Christmas Day service.
This time, both Jean and I introduced two of the most popular English language Christmas Carols in the UK and Canada. To begin, Jean spoke about Away in a Manger. Away in a Manager was written in 1882 and is often performed at children’s Christmas Concerts and Nativity Shows in the United Kingdom, United States and Canada. The carol tells the story of the birth of Jesus in simple terms that anyone can understand.
Following that, I introduced Silent Night, Holy Night. This is another carol that has been popular for many years. In fact, the carol was given World Heritage status by UNESCO in 2011. This carol also tells the story of the birth of Jesus and I personally remember singing it when I was in elementary school at my school’s Christmas concert.
These are the two most popular Christmas Carols in the UK and Canada but there are many more that you can enjoy singing at this special time of year. What’s your favourite Christmas hymn? If you see me, please tell me!
Before I finish, I would like to take this opportunity to wish anyone reading this a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
