Happy 137th birthday!
Today is the 137th birthday of Eiwa! As you may know, we were founded in 1887 and are very proud of our history as the oldest girls’ school in Shizuoka. We celebrate our birthday on November 26 each year, with special morning services given by Eiwa graduates in the week beforehand, and a keynote lecture on the 26th. This morning the students listened to a talk about the history of Japan and Korea. Korean culture is extremely popular among our young students these days, but Japan’s relationship with Korea has not always been so positive. Once again, it’s a good reminder to our students of the value of our motto – ‘Love thy Neighbour.’
Following the service, students in each class made Christmas wreaths to decorate their classrooms with. Advent starts this Sunday, Dec. 1, so the wreaths will be put up from Monday. I love seeing our students being creative and having fun working together like this. Sharing and exchanging ideas with each other is the base of education, don’t you think?
