Shizuoka Eiwa English Contest
The summer holidays may have started but we are still very busy here at Shizuoka Eiwa.
On Saturday July 29th 2023, we hosted our annual English Contest for elementary school students.
This year, nine boys and girls from the fifth and sixth grades of elementary schools in Shizuoka took part in the contest. The students firstly had to give a short self-introduction in English and then they started their recitations. There was a choice of five different speeches which were all based on European fairy tales. This year, famous stories such as The Ugly Duckling and Beauty and the Beast were very popular.
The contest was judged by two of the English teachers here at Shizuoka Eiwa and students were given points not just for their pronunciation but for their prosody and gestures too.
The level of the contest was very high which made the judging very difficult! I was very surprised to think that the students who took part in the contest were no old than twelve because their English level was exceptionally high. Sadly, we could not give prizes to everyone but I felt that all of the students did a great job.
I hope that all of the students who attended the contest had a great time. Hopefully we will see you all again at our other upcoming events in September!
