Getting ready for Christmas!
As you can imagine, there is a lot of activity around Christmastime here at Eiwa. One of the first things to do is to decorate the English Café. After we put up the decorations that we have, the girls had fun making their own original ones out of origami. What a nice blend of both Japanese and Western traditions!
What kind of food or sweets do you associate with Christmas? In Canada, cookies are a big part of Christmas treats. On Tuesday after school, a group of nine students enjoyed making two types of simple Christmas shortbread cookies, cutting them out into stars, bells, angels, trees and other typical Christmas shapes. Is this the beginning of a future career as a patissier??
Finally, on both Wednesday and Friday, the English Café was the scene of lively candle making. The student council took over the space, wrapping over 850 candles in tinfoil holders in preparation for Saturday’s Christmas Service. We are very excited to be able to welcome not only our students’ families this year, but also friends and community members. Eiwa’s Christmas Service is one of our biggest events of the year, and the school is abuzz with excitement as the music club, choir, school band, readers, handbell choir, drama members and others get ready for the day.
Merry Christmas everyone!
