Hello, everyone!
Hello, everyone! My name is Jean Taylor and I am the new foreign English teacher here at Shizuoka Eiwa. It is my real pleasure to be working here and I am eagerly looking forward to meeting you all once classes start up again. Hopefully, that will be soon! In the meantime, please let me tell you a few things about myself.

First of all, I am from Canada. As I’m sure you know, Eiwa has a strong connection to Canada with various study tours and sister schools in Canada. The maple leaf is not only the symbol of Canada, it is also the symbol of Eiwa. One reason for this connection is because the first principal of Eiwa, Miss Martha Jane Cunningham, was from Canada. In fact, she is from my hometown, Halifax. Eiwa’s close links to my home country, Canada, is one of the reasons I am so excited to be teaching here.

Secondly, I have been living and teaching in Shizuoka for thirty years. When I came to Japan as an ALT, I had planned to return to Canada after a year or two and teach social studies and French there. However, I ended up getting married, raising two children, and teaching English here instead. Just yesterday my daughter entered high school at the high school where I had worked as an ALT. My son also graduated from there in 2018. How little I could have imagined such a future all those years ago!

I’ll sign off there and say again how happy I am to be your new teacher at Eiwa. Please feel free to talk to me anytime-

Yours truly,

Jean
