School’s Out for Summer! – Eiwa Day & English Contest
Summer vacation has finally arrived at Shizuoka Eiwa!
The final morning service was held on July 21st. Of course, there are many events planned for the summer break, and some have already taken place…
On Saturday, July 18th, we held the first of this year’s Eiwa Days. Over 100 elementary school children came to experience lessons…They could choose from math, art, P.E and English.
After their lesson experiences, everyone headed off to take part in club activities: decorating donuts, playing handbells and playing games in the English Cafe were just some of the activities on offer…
The sports clubs are always popular, too: basketball, badminton and rhythmic gymnastics were crowded with enthusiastic participants! We hope to see as many smiling faces on the next Eiwa Day: October 10th. :-)
Talking of smiling faces, there were lots of smiles on July 25th, when we held the 5th Eiwa English Contest for elementary school children…
In Part 1, 5th graders recited short animal stories. Many participants were very creative with their presentations.
In Part 2, 6th graders presented famous fairy tales. Costumes, props, gestures and facial expression were all used to great effect by many entrants.
While the participants were hungry for success in the contest, the audience were hungry for success in the prize draw, which took place while the judges made their decisions.
Take a look at the Japanese pages to see the contest winners, but as Mr. Woodward said in his speech, they were all winners just by taking part. Well done to you all for taking this chance to have some fun with English! :-)
