English Speech Contests 2025
I am happy to say that once again this year, the students at Shizuoka Eiwa have been working hard to take part in a number of English speech contests.
This year one student from the Junior High School and three students from the Senior High School took part in regional and prefectural speech contests. I was amazed at the variety of topics the students chose to talk about this year. One student questioned if we should consider the things we have to do in life duties or opportunities, while the other students gave speeches about animal rights, discrimination and studying English.
I am extremely proud of the efforts that the students put in starting from late June when they first began thinking about their speeches. The process of taking part in the speech contest doesn’t just include giving a speech on the day of the contest. It induces a large amount of thinking and writing time as well as a considerable amount of practice.
This year, our students did a great job in balancing their school work and club activities with taking part in the contest. It was especially hard for our high school students this year as the first stage of the speech contest was held on the day of our school festival which meant they not only had to miss part of the festival but had to find a way to do their best to prepare for both the contest and the school event.
Helping the students with their speeches is one of the most challenging and rewarding parts of my work. I am extremely happy with the efforts of all our students and I am already looking forward to seeing what next year’s students will write about.
