カナダのノバスコシアに５か月留学している高校2年生から、お便りが届きました。

December is a busy month full of events!⛄️ I’d like to share how Christmas, New Year’s, and winter break are celebrated here!!

行事が多い12月です！⛄️
英和でも大事にされているクリスマスやお正月、冬休みなどの様子をお届けします！

First, Christmas is a major event in Canada as well🎅🏻 Surprisingly, people don’t receive just one present—there are several:))), and even adults get visits from Santa Claus🎁! Most households use real trees for their Christmas trees. I even went with my host family to cut down a tree ourselves🌳🪓

まず、カナダでも一大イベントであるクリスマスですが、なんとプレゼントは一つだけではありません。さらに大人にもサンタクロースが来てくれます🎁！クリスマスツリーは、ほとんどの家で本物の木を使っています！私もホストファミリーと一緒に木を切り倒しに行きました🌳🪓

As for New Year’s, unlike the big parties or New Year’s money often seen on social media, it was much quieter. We played games as a family until just before midnight🎮, and I counted down to 2026 alone in my room:') Since I’m staying in a rural area, the neighborhood was very calm and not noisy at all.

そしてお正月ですが、よくSNSで見るような盛大なパーティーやお年玉などはなく、年越しの直前まで家族でゲームをし、2026年は部屋でひとりでカウントダウンをしました。私がホームステイしているところが田舎ということもあり、特に周りの家が騒ぐこともありませんでした。

During winter break, I went to an event called Glow❄️! There were illuminations, small rides, and games. I enjoyed riding the Viking ship🚢, roller skating, and playing shooting games🔫

冬休みは、Glowというイベントに行きました！❄️
イルミネーションやちょっとした乗り物に乗ったり、ゲームができます。私は、バイキングに乗ったり、ローラースケートやシューティングゲームを楽しみました！

With only one month left until I return home :'(, I want to enjoy every moment and make sure I have no regrets until the very end:D

帰国まで、早くも残り1ヶ月となりましたが、最後まで後悔のないように楽しみます！💪🏻
