カナダ・ビクトリア 留学だより 12月
9月からカナダのビクトリアに10ヶ月留学している高校2年生から、お便りが届きました。
こんにちはSakiです！12月になり気温は平均6度くらいでとても寒くなってきました。今月はカナダでのビッグホリデーの1つであるクリスマスがありました。12月上旬から多くの家がイルミネーションなどの飾り付けを行い、街にもたくさんのクリスマスツリーやイルミネーションがあり、夜になるととても綺麗に光っていました。
Hello, I'm Saki! December has arrived, and the temperature has dropped to around 6 degrees Celsius, making it quite cold. This month, we celebrated Christmas, one of Canada's big holidays. From early December, many houses were decorated with lights and other ornaments. The streets were also adorned with numerous Christmas trees and illuminations, creating a beautiful spectacle at night.
ビクトリアではクリスマスパレードが行われ、クリスマスの飾り付けがされた車や船と共にサンタやトナカイの格好をした人たちが音楽にのせてダンスをします。私も友達と一緒に参加してきました。本当に大人から子供までみんなが全力で盛り上げて楽しんでいる姿がとても印象的でした。
In Victoria, a Christmas parade took place. People dressed as Santa and reindeer danced to music, accompanied by cars and boats decorated for Christmas. I also participated with my friends. The sight of everyone, from adults to children, enthusiastically celebrating and having fun was truly memorable.

そして、クリスマスイヴの夜はホストファミリーと一緒にシークレットサンタを行いました。シークレットサンタとは簡単に言うと誰のプレゼントかわからない状態で交換し合うことです。その後もボートゲームやジェスチャーゲームなどをして楽しみました。
25日は朝から家族みんなで、小さなプレゼントがたくさん入ったクリスマスストッキングと本当にたくさんのプレゼントをみんなで開封しました。私もクリスマスパジャマやお菓子などを頂きました。夜は親戚15人くらいで集まり、それぞれ手作りの料理やデザートを持ち寄りクリスマスディナーを楽しみました。
On Christmas Eve, I participated in a Secret Santa with my host family. Secret Santa is essentially an exchange where you don't know who gave you a gift. Afterwards, we enjoyed playing board games and charades. On the 25th, the whole family opened Christmas stockings filled with small gifts, along with many other presents. I received Christmas pajamas and sweets, among other things. In the evening, about 15 relatives gathered, each bringing homemade dishes and desserts, and we enjoyed a Christmas dinner together.
25日は朝から家族みんなで、小さなプレゼントがたくさん入ったクリスマスストッキングと本当にたくさんのプレゼントをみんなで開封しました。私もクリスマスパジャマやお菓子などを頂きました。夜は親戚15人くらいで集まり、それぞれ手作りの料理やデザートを持ち寄りクリスマスディナーを楽しみました。

思っていたよりも本当にたくさんのプレゼントや飾り付け、食事など日本とは違うカナダのクリスマスを味わうことができて本当に素敵な経験をしました。そして他の国の友達と会話をする中で、それぞれの国でクリスマスの祝い方にも特徴があり、日本と違う点も知ることができ、とてもおもしろいと感じました。
I had a wonderful experience, enjoying the Canadian Christmas, which differed from Japan's in terms of the abundance of gifts, decorations, and food. Engaging in conversations with friends from other countries, I also learned about the unique ways Christmas is celebrated in their respective nations, discovering fascinating differences from Japan.
