Junior High Second Grade English Camp
On May 1st and 2nd our junior high second grade students attended the annual English Camp at the Shizuoka Prefectural Outdoor Activities Center in Fujinomiya. The students enjoyed two days of English conversation and performances as well as the chance to make friends and have fun.
We started by taking a bus from Shizuoka to Fujinomiya. On the way, the students were taught some useful English phrases by the four native teachers who ran the program. After arriving at the camp, we started to work on the main activity – the English drama.

The students were separated into groups of four or five and given a script to practice. The students then had to memorise their lines while thinking about the meaning of the words and how to deliver them.
After some hard practice, the students took a break to make some eco-bags. The theme for the bags was ‘where do you want to go?’ and the students had to design a bag that showed a place they’d like to go. I was amazed at the creativity that the students showed and I thought that everyone made very great bags.

After some food the students were given some free time to talk and have fun before going to bed. They woke up bright and early on the final day to start to prepare for the big drama presentation.
I thought the final presentations were amazing and that the students did a great job of performing in English. After the event came to an end, the students returned to Shizuoka. I hope that they all keep the memories of this English camp in their minds and that they use this experience to further develop their English skills in the future.
