カナダ留学だより 1月
昨年9月からカナダに10か月留学している高校2年生から、お便りが届きました。
Happy new year!! I hope you have a wonderful year.
The first semester has ended in Canada, and we had our final exams this month. I took a pre-calculus class this semester, and I’m glad I was able to complete it successfully. The exam was held in the gym which is something I don’t usually see in Japan, so it felt like a new and interesting experience.
カナダでは1学期が1月で終わり､学期末テストがありました。私は数学のクラスを取っていましたが、無事にテストを終えることができてよかったです。
I also went on a ski trip organized for international students. As you know, there is no snow in Shizuoka, so it was an incredible experience for me. I usually go skiing, but this time, I tried snowboarding on the first day because my friends invited me. At first, it was quite difficult and I fell many times. However, by the end of the day, I had improved enough to take the lift to the top of the mountain and snowboarded all the way down. My legs were sore, but it turned out to be such a fun and memorable experience.
今月はインターナショナルの生徒向けのスキー旅行に行きました。知っての通り、静岡は雪が降らないので､私にとってとても良い経験になりました。私は普段はスキーをしますが、今回は友達に誘われて1日目はスノーボードにも挑戦しました。最初はとても難しく､何度も転びましたが、1日の終わりにはリフトに乗って山の頂上まで登り、滑って降りてこられるほど上達しました。足は筋肉痛になりましたが､とても楽しく忘れられない思い出になりました。

In January, I also had to say goodbye to a friend. One of my friends who had been staying for 5 months in Canada returned to her home country. Before she left, we spent time together, including going to the cinema and watching Mufasa which is a Lion King story released by Disney. She is from Costa Rica which is very far from Japan, so it might be difficult to see her again. That made me even more sorrowful. However, I’m truly grateful to have met her and become such good friends. Also I feel that spending time with international students who I would never have met if I had stayed in Japan, is an incredibly valuable experience.
今月は､友達との別れも経験しました。5ヶ月間カナダに滞在した友達が自国に帰って行きました。出発前に一緒に遊び､ディズニーのムファサという映画を見に行きました。彼女はコスタリカの出身で､日本からはとても遠いのでもう一度会うことは難しいと思います。そのため、より寂しさを感じました。しかし、彼女と出会い､仲良くなれたことに本当に感謝しています。また、日本にいたら出会えなかった留学生と過ごす時間は本当に貴重な経験だと改めて感じました。

The second semester will start in February. I will be taking Art, ELC(English), and World Religion. I think it will be more challenging than the first semester, but I will do my best to strive and succeed.
2学期は2月から始まります。私は､美術、英語､世界宗教を学びます。2学期は1学期よりも難しい授業が多いですが、頑張りたいと思います。
