カナダ留学だより ビクトリア 3月
In early March, it snowed, but the temperature warmed up from mid to late March, becoming warm enough to wear short sleeves!
3月初旬は雪が降り、中旬から下旬にかけて暖かくなり半袖でも過ごせるような気温になりました。本当に気温の変化が激しい1ヶ月でした。
In early March, there was a Grade 11 retreat. It felt like a picnic-style outing. We listened to talks from Grade 12 students and discussed what we learned in small groups. We separated into two teams and played games outside, while some enjoyed free time playing outside or chatting indoors. During lunchtime, we made and ate s’mores outside. Making s’mores is common in Japan during BBQs. Making them was really fun and I ate a lot! Since we have different classes at school, there were many students my age whom I hadn't talked to before, so it was great to make new friends!
3月初旬にGr.11のリトリートがありました。校外学習のピクニックのような感じでした。Gr.12のお話を聞き、そこから何を学びどのような疑問があるのかを何人かのグループで話し合いました。自由な時間は2チームに分かれて外でゲームをしたり、外で遊ぶ子たちや屋内でお話をしてる子たちなど様々でした。またお昼の時間には、外でスモアを作り食べました。日本ではバーベキューなどでマシュマロを焼いて食べることはよくあると思います。また家で簡単にスモアを作ることはよくあると思いますが、実際にスモアを作るということをあまりしないのですごく楽しく、ついついいっぱい食べてしまいました！学校で取る授業が違い、話したことのない同い年の子がかなりいたのでこれを機に新しくお友達になることができてとてもよかったです。

We also had a spirit week during which we dressed according to a theme. Since we don't usually wear civvies to school in Japan, it was really interesting, especially the pajama day and the days that students dressed like teachers and teachers dressed like students. It was refreshing and fun to see the teachers wearing the school uniform.
On the last day before spring break, we got free ice cream, and we all enjoyed it together.
またテーマに沿って服を着てくるスプリットウィークがありました。日本では私服を学校に着て行ったりする機会がないので、本当に面白かったです。特に生徒は先生のような服装を先生は生徒のような服装をする日と、パジャマを着てくる日は特に印象的でした。先生達が学校の制服を着てくるのはすごく新鮮でとても面白い企画でした。
また春休み前最終日にはアイスが無料で配られみんなでアイスを食べました。
During spring break, I went to The Empress Hotel for afternoon tea with friends. In Japan there is also afternoon tea, but I hadn't had the chance to experience the real British version. There were 18 types of tea to choose from, which made it hard for me and my friends to decide. I ordered the “The Empress.” It is named after the hotel, and it was really delicious, but when we added milk, it became smoother and, combined with the sweets on the top platter, it was so good. The staff explained about the teas and foods in detail and showed us the way to eat them. The scones with strawberry jam and cream were especially delicious. It was truly a luxurious moment. I can say that it's one of the good places you have to go in Victoria!
春休みには友達と一緒にザ・エンプレスのアフタヌーンティーに行きました。日本にもアフタヌーンティーはありますが、イギリスの本格的なアフタヌーンティーに行く機会はなかったのでとてもいい経験でした。18種類のお茶がありどれにしようか私も友達も迷ってしまいました。エンプレスというホテルと同じ名前のお茶があったのでそれを頼みました。ミルクなしの味は本当に質の良い紅茶でとてもおいしかったですが、そこにミルクが加わるとまろやかになり上の段にあるスイーツととても相性がよかったです。スタッフの方がお茶、食べ物の説明を具体的にしてくださりまたどこから食べればいいかなどの手順も教えてくださったおかげでスムーズに食べ進めることができました。特にスコーンが美味しくいちごジャム、クリーム共にとってもおいしかったです。本当に贅沢なひと時でした。ビクトリアに行く際は必ず訪れた方がいい場所の一つだと自信をもって言えます！
