Hello, I'm Koko from the United States of America. I celebrated Thanksgiving with my new host family on November 23rd. During the Thanksgiving break, I visited my host father's family, and we had dinner together. In my new host family, there's a Chiweenie dog named Hank and a cat named Charizard. Hank always curls up on my lap when I'm on the couch. They're both absolutely adorable, and I love them so much.

11月23日に新しいホストファミリーとサンクス・ギビング（収穫感謝祭）を祝いました。サンクスギビング休暇にホストファザーの家族を訪ね、一緒に夕食をいただきました。新しいホストファミリーには、ハンクという名前のチーウィニー犬と、チャーザードという名前の猫がいます。ハンクは私がソファにいるとき、いつも私の膝の上で丸くなり、2匹とも本当に可愛くて、大好きです。

My host mom teaches U.S. history at my school, and I have her class this semester and the next semester, too. I find her teaching style enjoyable. Rather than focusing on memorization, she presents the material as a story, making it easier for the students to understand. I really enjoy her class so much and could learn more about America and the other side of the war that we were not taught in Japan.

ホストマザーは私の学校でアメリカ史を教えていて、私は今学期と来学期にホストマザーの授業を受けます。暗記に重点を置くのではなく、物語として教えてくれるのでとてもありがたく、楽しく学べています。日本では教わらなかったアメリカの歴史や、アメリカからみた戦争の歴史についてもたくさん学ぶことができました。

We recently had our dance performance during the boys’ basketball game half-time. As it was the last performance of the year, we did a Christmas dance. Those performing the challenging parts got to wear red tops, while the rest wore green. To be part of the red group, we had auditions, and I'm proud to say I took a spot due to my daily practice. Achieving this goal brought me happiness. I've been learning dance since childhood, so the daily practice wasn't a burden. Instead, it brought me joy and a sense of accomplishment.

先日、男子バスケットボールのハーフタイムにダンスパフォーマンスをしました。今年最後のパフォーマンスということで、クリスマスダンスを踊りました。難易度の高いパートを踊る人は赤いトップス、それ以外の人は緑色のトップスを着ることになりました。今回は8人しかパフォーマンスをすることができないのでオーディションがあり、受かった中のトップ4が赤いトップスのパートをすることになりました。私は日頃の練習の成果でそのパートを演じることができて本当に嬉しかったです。この目標を達成できたことは、私にとって幸せでした。子供の頃からダンスを習っていたこともあり毎日の練習が負担に感じることはなく、喜びと達成感をもたらしてくれました。

In our hospitality class, we created a massive cookie. Unlike previous labs where we cooked meals, this time, it was all about sweets, and we were all excited about it! The most
enjoyable part was mixing chocolate chips and colorful sprinkles into the cookie dough. American cookies differ significantly from the ones I've had in Japan or other countries. They’re slightly crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside. I absolutely love them. Eating American cookies is one of my favorite things about being in the U.S.

ホスピタリティの授業では、巨大なクッキーを作りました。今までの実習は食事ばかり習っていましたが、今回はお菓子だったのでみんなもとても楽しみでした。クッキー生地にチョコレートチップやカラフルなスプリンクルを混ぜる時が楽しかったです。アメリカのクッキーは、日本や他の国で食べたものとはかなり違うなと気付きました。外はサクサクで中は噛みごたえがあり私は大好きです。アメリカンクッキーを食べることはアメリカにいてとっても楽しみなことのひとつです。

After school, we had sports picture day for all students participating in sports during the first semester, from freshmen to seniors. We took group photos for each sport, and then, individual shots for each athlete. It was different from Japan, where photographers often guide poses; here we could do any pose we liked. The variety of styles which everyone made was interesting. Experiencing these differences in real life, rather than just hearing about them, has been a valuable aspect of my exchange program.

放課後に、1学期スポーツに参加した高１から高３まで生徒全員のスポーツ写真撮影会がありました。各種目の集合写真を撮り、その後、各選手の個人写真を撮りました。カメラマンにポーズを指導されることが多い日本とは違い、アメリカでは好きなポーズで撮ることができます。みんなのスタイルはバラエティに富んでいて面白かったです。このような違いを聞くだけでなく実際に自分の目で見ることができる事は、交換留学の貴重な経験のひとつです。
