カナダ留学だより ウイニペグ 11月 ②
Hi! This is Hana, from Winnipeg🍁
There is one month left before Christmas! In our house we started to decorate for Christmas. In our home, all of the ornaments are handmade by my host mother. We decided the theme of this Christmas and this year, our theme is “Beach.” We made some ornaments with shells and some more blue things. I decorated them with my host mother. It looks so beautiful!
クリスマスまで一ヶ月です！家の中では、クリスマスの飾り付けをはじめました。私のホストファミリーでは、毎年マザーがテーマを決めて、手作りの飾り付けをしています。今年は「海」がテーマで、私もホストファミリーと一緒に水色や薄い青を基調に、貝殻などを飾り付けました。とっても綺麗です！

On Saturday, we had a Holiday Market at the school common. It was very busy with people. There were some handmade items and those were very cute! I bought some Christmas ornaments for my host family. There was also a booth where we could take pictures with Santa Claus. He came from the North Pole for Christmas. He said that he looks forward to seeing the smiles on the children's faces every Christmas.
土曜日に、学校でHoliday Marketがあり、友達と一緒に行きました。そこでは、ハンドメイドのお店がたくさんあり、とても賑わっていました。また、サンタクロースと一緒に写真を撮れるブースがあり、私たちも一緒に話をしながら写真を撮りました。クリスマスのために、北極からカナダに来たそうです。毎年、クリスマスに子供たちの笑顔を見るのが何よりの楽しみだと話してくれました。

In EAL class, our teacher could speak Arabic, so we learnt a little Arabic. The difference between English, Japanese and Arabic is the letters are going right from left. We became able to speak some greetings and introduce ourselves.
There are also students from Ukraine, India, and Thailand, so we learnt some of those languages too. It was difficult because there were some sounds I had never pronounced before. Also, Thai and Arabic have different characters, so it is very difficult to write.
I also taught Japanese. The exchange student from Thailand said she learned Japanese at a school in Thailand. So she is able to read and write hiragana. It makes me very happy to see people from other countries trying to speak Japanese.
留学生のための英語の授業で、担当の先生がアラビア語も話すことができるので、アラビア語を少し習いました。英語や日本語とは違い、右から左に読みます。基本のあいさつと自己紹介などができるようになりました。
その授業の中には、ウクライナやインド、タイからの留学生がいるので、その言語も習いました。発音した事のない音もあり難しかったです。また、タイ語やアラビア語は文字が独特なので書くのもとても難しいです。
私も日本語を教えました。タイからの留学生の生徒は、タイの学校で日本語を習っていたとのことで、ひらがなを読んだり書いたりすることができます。他の国の人が日本語を一生懸命話している姿を見ると、とても嬉しくなります。
We had Black Friday sales this weekend! So I went to a department store with exchange students from Thailand. There were a lot of decorations for Christmas and it was so beautiful! We ate Thai food for lunch at the food court. I bought clothes for winter and some books that I wanted. I had a very good time with them.
ブラックフライデーのセールがあったので、休みの日にタイからの留学生の友達と一緒にデパートに行きました。クリスマスの飾り付けがされていて、とても綺麗でした。お昼はフードコートで一緒にタイ料理を食べました。冬物の服と欲しかった本を買い、楽しい1日を過ごすことができました。
