カナダ留学だより ウイニペグ 10月 ②
Hi! This is Hana, from Winnipeg🍁
It has been two months since I came here. Two months have flown by so fast...
It started snowing from this week! I am very refreshed because we don’t have snow in Shizuoka. There will be lots more snow from now on. At school, our teacher warned us about snow days. Snow can be slippery for both walking people and cars. So we have to be careful when walking and to wear warm clothes. The temperature is already lower than the winter temperature in Shizuoka. I would like to spend the winter by taking good care of my health.
カナダに来て2ヶ月が経ちました。時間が経つのは本当に早いです。今週から雪が降り始めました！静岡生まれの私にとって降り積もる雪はとても目新しいものでした。まだ冬は始まったばかりです。どのくらい降り積もるのか私には想像もできません❄️
学校で先生から、雪の日の注意を受けました。雪の日は歩きの人も車も滑りやすいので注意して歩くこと、上着などを着て暖かく過ごすことなどです。既に静岡の真冬の気温より低いです。体調管理をしっかりして冬を過ごしたいと思います。

October 31st is Halloween!
We had a lot of events organized by the Student Council. On Halloween, we had a costume contest and there were a lot of students that dressed up. They were wearing a lot of kinds of costumes. There were some scary costumes, cute costumes, unique costumes... My friend and I wore matching costumes. One of my friends made us a hair band! We had a very good Halloween at school.

学校では、生徒会を中心にいろいろなイベントがありました。昼休み、食堂で集まり仮装大会がありました。たくさんの生徒たちが、本格的なものや可愛いもの、個性的なものなど様々な仮装をしました。私と友達はおそろいの果物の格好をしました。友達の一人が手作りのカチューシャを持って来てくれました！学校全体で行われた大きなハロウィンパーティーでとても楽しい時間を過ごすことができました。

学校では、生徒会を中心にいろいろなイベントがありました。昼休み、食堂で集まり仮装大会がありました。たくさんの生徒たちが、本格的なものや可愛いもの、個性的なものなど様々な仮装をしました。私と友達はおそろいの果物の格好をしました。友達の一人が手作りのカチューシャを持って来てくれました！学校全体で行われた大きなハロウィンパーティーでとても楽しい時間を過ごすことができました。
Before Halloween, we carved pumpkins and made candy bags for trick or treating for Halloween day. It was my first time to carve a pumpkin, so I was very excited. We removed the seeds, and then a sketch was made with a pen, and a hole was made using a cutter with a special blade to carve. Until Halloween day, we put a light inside and put it at the entrance. We went trick or treating with my host sister and exchange students from Thailand. This was my first time to wear a costume and walk together in the snow to get candies at Halloween. It was cold, but we had a lot of fun!
ハロウィン当日をむかえる前、家では大きなカボチャをくり抜いて、ジャック・オー・ランタンを作ったり、みんなに配るお菓子の袋詰をしたりしました。カボチャを彫るのは初めてだったのでドキドキしました。種などの中身を出して、ペンで下書きをし、専用の刃がついたカッターで穴を開けて彫っていきます。当日まで、ライトを中に入れて飾ります。
当日は、ホストシスターとタイから来た留学生の子たちと一緒に仮装をして近所を回りました。寒かったですが、初めての雪の日のハロウィンを思いっきり楽しめました。

In English class, we are reading “The Tragedy of Macbeth” written by Shakespeare. It is difficult for me because it is written in old English. Just like in a Japanese class, we read the story and think about the characters’ feelings, and what the writer wants to convey through metaphors. We saw the movie Macbeth in class before starting to read the book, so we were able to learn more about the historical background, locations, and characters. We are at the end of the story now. Therefore, we are working on the Macbeth Project now. We had to choose one of the options given by the teacher and give a presentation in class. Options included writing a letter or diary as a character, or writing a newspaper article featuring events from the story. I was very surprised to see that some students made songs based on their characters and sang them in front of class. I thought about the character and personality of the main character, Lady Macbeth, and designed the character, including the colors of her clothes and the jewelry she uses in her accessories.
英文学の授業で、シェイクスピアの“The Tragedy of Macbeth”（マクベス）を学んでいます。古い英語で書かれているので難しいです。日本での国語の授業と同じように登場人物の気持ちや、暗喩によって何を伝えたいかなどを考えて読んでいます。また、授業内で映画版のマクベスを見て、より具体的に時代背景や場所、登場人物についてなどを知ることができました。物語が終わりに近づいています。そこで、今私たちはMacbeth Project（マクベス・プロジェクト）を進めています。先生が出してくださった選択肢の中から一つのテーマを選んで、授業内でプレゼンをします。選択肢には登場人物になりきって手紙や日記を書くものや、物語の中の様子を特集した新聞記事を書いたりするものなどがありました。それぞれのキャラクターをイメージした歌を作って、みんなの前で歌っていた生徒もいて驚きました。私は主人公のマクベス夫人の性格や人柄を考え、服の色やアクセサリーで使っている宝石などのキャラクターデザインをしました。

We had TA day in last Wednesday. TA is the short for Teacher Adviser and it is just like Japanese HR. We spent all day with the same TA classmates. We listened to teachers talking about our future course like university in the morning class. Same as in Japan, the university and department will change depending on the direction we want to go. We asked about some teachers' recommendations and partner schools. In the afternoon class, we attended a meeting where we could listen to people who work at various professions. They came to our school and talked us about how they liked their jobs. I joined a meeting where a web designer and police officer were talking. I was impressed that the designer said that he liked this work and wanted to continue doing it. I want to find a dream that will make things I want to do come true.
水曜日にTA Dayがありました。TAとは teacher adviser の略で、日本のHRと同じような感じです。その日は一日、同じTA組の生徒と過ごしました。午前中は担任の先生が大学や進路について話してくださったのを聞きました。日本と同じで、進みたい方向によってそれぞれ大学や学科が変わってきます。先生のおすすめや協定校についてのお話がありました。午後からは、いろいろな職業の方が、それぞれの仕事の良さややりがいについてお話ししてくださいました。私はWebデザイナーと警察官の方の話を聞きに行きました。デザイナーの方が、今の仕事が大好きでこれからもずっとこの仕事を続けていきたい、と話していた姿がとても印象的でした。私も、自分の好きなことができる夢を探そうと思います。
Last week, I prepared for winter with my host family. We raked the leaves and cut all the grass. We also put away the trampoline and some objects in the garage. Winter is finally here. I heard that the temperature can drop below -40 degrees at its coldest time. It looks like it's going to be a winter unlike anything I've ever experienced before.
先週、ホストファミリーと一緒に冬支度をしました。落ち葉の掃除や草刈りなどをして、雪がたくさん降るので、庭に置いてある植物やトランポリン、椅子や置物などを全て片付けました。いよいよ本格的な冬がやってきます。一番寒い時は気温がマイナス40度以下になると聞きました。私にとって、今まで経験したことのない冬になりそうです。
